G♥Baby & Trio Collaboration

Well, after months and months of waiting, this amazing girl is on the bay, awaiting her fate.

Daisy Buchanan was a labour of love for Gina and I.  I had the most amazing experience working on her wardrobe and am very proud of how it turned out.  I made a new pattern!!  And it is one I will continue to use, as it is so very versatile and fun to play with.

Gina's custom work always amazes me and Daisy is no exception.  She is so gorgeous and I think, perfectly reminiscent of the Daisy from Baz Luhrmann's recent cinematic version of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  She is over the top, pouty and beautiful.

Nearly There

Well, it's less than two weeks until we leave for New York and I am really feeling the pressure.  I have butterflies, I'm not sleeping well and I have more things to do than I have time left!!!
I'm sure there are some other bcny vendors who feel the same way I do.  Never fear, things nearly always seem to work out for the best!  Even if my grand plans end up being a little less grand!
I am not having as much fun right now though, but it's funny because in about a month, it will all be over and I'll be sitting there dazed and thinking, I can't believe it's all over already!  I need to be mindful and try and enjoy every minute of the build-up/countdown!
I have some pics that I want to share and that I should have put up here ages ago.  I really have neglected this little place on the web.
These dresses are part of the G.Baby and Trio Daisy Buchanan collaboration which will be on display at the BCNY.

This girl is a Chinalilly custom with clothes made especially for her by me!  She is collab, that Sam and I have had fun working on.  She was inspired by an Australian Sunset and her name is Aurora Australis.  She has thermal hair which turns blue when it is warm.  She will be available for adoption at BCNY.

This will be one of a very limited number of 50s style tulle dresses available to purchase.  These dresses are so fiddly to make - simple but very fiddly!!  And oh so rewarding!  I think they are pretty cute!

Well, best be back to sewing on snaps and beads and buttons, and to folding packaging and stall design - which is very lacking still.  It's quite hard to figure out how to make a flat pack stall work!!
See you soon!

Two New Stunners...

...have arrived in the Trio household!!
My gorgeous Nanuka Girl, Coraz├│n, from Spain and my equally gorgeous G♥Baby, Lacey, from California!!
I'm over the moon with both of them.  I feel very lucky to have been able to welcome both of them within a couple of weeks!!
I can't wait to dress them both in their own very special outfits and show them off when I go to New York in October!

Making slow progress...

I have made a few pretty pink corsets and am just doing some finishing touches on them.
I think I'll keep some plain and embellish some so there's a choice.
Here are some work in progress shots.

All bits sewn together and then sewn to the linings...
 Curves clipped and then fraystopped...

Turned inside out...

Tacked and then pressed...
All ready for embellishment and eyelets...

Another Photoshop Unit Down!!

Well I have just finished another online photoshopping unit with rmit and this was my final piece.
I didn't enjoy this unit as much as the last one, and I'm glad it's over now!  We learned a few techniques straight from a photoshopping book and dvd and then for our final assignment, we had to combine as many of the techniques as we could into one photographic image.
I'm still waiting for my final marks, but up til now I've done very well so I'm not worried.  Even if I flunk this assignment, I've still passed.
I really would like to do some more of these type of images that I can make into little cards and postcards to take to Blythe Con NY.  They might be something nice and small and inexpensive to have on my little stall.

Slowly, slowly...

...I have made a start!  Yay!
I am only up to outfit number two for bcny, but at least now I have realised that I can do it!  Still not 100% sure I'm actually going, as hubby's job is a little on the line right now, but at least I have started on stock for my stall and I've even thought about what sort of theme I'm going to try and go with!!

Here are the first two outfits...

Blythe Con NY

Well, I have been trying desperately to get my head around the being a vendor at BCNY and have not gotten there yet!!  How do you go about deciding what you are going to stock your little 3by3foot stall with?  I have hunted all over the interwebs trying to find good ideas for how to cleverly display stock.   And there are quite a few very gorgeous and nifty little things that very clever clogs have come up with.  But now I need to make a few of my own decisions about what I am going to make and do!!  It's all very well to get excited and silly, but now I need to keep calm and carry on!
Hopefully within the next week I will have almost finished up more than half the trades I am in the middle of and be able to start brain-storming ideas.
Oh and here is the donation I have made for the Blythe Fest Sydney 2013.  (just the dress and tights, and not my new MeiMei Bunny Helmet!!)

I'm going to be a Vendor at the 2013 New York Blythe Convention!!  I am SOOOOO excited, I tell ya!!  I can hardly contain myself!!
I have heard of most of these designers, but not all on this list so I have been doing a LOT of research!  I'm trying to find out if there are going to be any other Aussie Vendors...
I have absolutely no idea how to go about getting permission to sell in the US.  So I guess I will be doing a bit of research on that as well!  I have never been to the United States, so this is sooooo daunting, but very cool!!!

Clean Camera!

Well after two weeks without my camera, it is back home again!
In the school holidays we all went into the Swan Valley for lunch one day and I spilt an entire beer onto my camera!!  It was terrible!  Anyway, stupidly, I dried it all off and thought everything would be fine.  But no, of course, some of the buttons started sticking and I finally decided it needed to be sent off for cleaning.
Two weeks and $330 dollars later, ARGHHHHH!!!  My camera is back safe and sound and shiny and clean.
I've learned that if you spill liquids on your camera, everything can still be working for a while, but if some of it gets inside, then parts will rust and then there is no going back!  So, lesson learned, my camera will not be drinking another beer anytime soon.

And here is a half picture of my latest dress.  Ahhh, it is so nice to have my camera back!  I really do love him!

In my etsy shop...

Last Photo Shoot!

Well, I'm about to go out with my sister to do a last photo shoot with all the dresses.  Hopefully the light isn't too much and I don't have to photoshop the nonsense out of them!! ha ha!
This is a photo from yesterday that I quite like.  You can't exactly see the dresses very clearly but I think it's pretty anyway.

Dresses for...

...a Special Occasion.
I have finally finished a small series of dresses, that I have been working on for about three weeks now!
There will be only four available in my etsy shop on Sunday afternoon - I don't know exactly when, but I'd say mid-afternoon Perth, Western Australian time!!  That is, if all goes to plan!
Hopefully there will be some more decent pics to come in the next couple of days.

New Dress Collection... come soon!
I have had a LOT of interest in the Dior Style 50s dresses I made for Coralie. (For the Love of Blythe Project)  So I have decided to attempt a small collection of them.
I will document the process here on my blog and hopefully I will not have a meltdown as they are very difficult and extremely time consuming.
I have chosen fabrics and each will be a different combination, but hopefully they will all be equally pretty!

I'll make a test one first as it was a while ago that I made them, and I can't remember exactly how I did it!!  I really should be better at recording my processes.  Maybe 2013 will be the year for that!!

I have cut out all the bits and pieces.  The bodices are made up of five pattern pieces which give a beautiful fit and the lining is exactly the same.
The tulle overlay on the bodice is gathered and sewn into a side seam.  This is the hardest bit to get right and I usually have to attempt this a couple of times to get it perfect.
The skirt has two layers of gathered tulle and one layer is sewn just below the other so that there isn't too much bulk in the base of the bodice.
I always use two rows of gathering stitch to get the gathering perfect too.  I sew onto tissue paper to make the tulle easier to work with.  Otherwise sometimes it is sucked into the bottom of the machine and there is no saving it then!!!  There is usually a lot of tears that come with times like those!!  The tulle is very full and the gathering needs to be spread very evenly to look its best.
The hem on the silk fabric I sew by hand so there is barely a stitch visible on the outside and it is easily hidden by the layers of tulle.

Slowly getting there now.  Have sewn the under layer of tulle on and sewn the bodice pieces together.  Now to clip all the inside curves on the bodice and fray stop the clips, sew the lining to the bodice and gather the top of the skirt and tack the gathered top layer of tulle.

And now I remember why I told myself I would never make one of these dresses again!  Ha ha!!

Now to pin the tulle across the bodice...

And finally it's finished!
